Gospel & Soul Review

by Jon O'Brien

Further distancing herself from her Popstars beginnings, 2002 entrant Chimène Badi's fourth studio album continues to pursue the soul direction of 2010's Laisse les Dire on 12 covers of tracks that inspired her to take up a career in singing. Produced by Regis Ceccarelli (Patrick Bruel, Alain Souchon), it features renditions of both English-language hits (Stevie Wonder's "For Once in My Life," Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness," Donna Hightower's "The World Today Is a Mess") and French-sung favorites (Nicole Croisille's "Parlez-Moi de Lui" and Georges Moustaki's "Ma Liberte") alongside a duet with Grammy-winning soulman Billy Paul ("Ain't No Mountain High Enough").
