AllMusic Review by

Benny Goodman had one of his great years in 1945 when he was still only 36. Although history looks at him as being a bit old-fashioned musically by this time, especially when compared to Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, in reality BG was still the world's top clarinetist, leader of an exciting (if underrated) big band and at the peak of his commercial fame. The LP Goodman on the Air, released by the Swedish Phontastic label, is comprised of radio airchecks from 1945 featuring both the Goodman Sextet (on five numbers) and big band on selections that might be familiar to the clarinetist's fans (such as "Slipped Disc," "Clarinet A La King" and "King Porter Stomp") but actually differ greatly from their studio versions. Worth searching for.
