Miles Donahue is a solid trumpeter and saxophonist who plays well within the hard bop genre. On this set he is teamed with four better-known musicians, each of whom inspires him to play at his best. Tenor-saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi and pianist Kenny Werner sometimes overshadow Donahue but the leader gets in his spots, playing trumpet on five numbers, soprano on one and being the only tenor on "I'm Old Fashioned." He also contributed five of the songs and helped re-harmonize the other four. This is a fine set of post bop jazz.
