On one day in 1934, Glen Gray's Casa Loma Orchestra recorded 16 instrumentals as radio transcriptions. This long out-of-print budget LP has a dozen of the tunes. With trumpeter Sunny Dunham, trombonist Pee Wee Hunt, clarinetist Clarence Hutchenrider and Pat Davis on tenor contributing the bulk of the solos and Gene Gifford responsible for most of the arranangements, this was an impressive group. Their excellent performances on that day in 1934 (highlighted by "Limehouse Blues," "Ol' Man River," "Chinatown My Chinatown," "Maniac's Ball" and "Black Jazz") deserve to be reissued on CD for this album will be difficult to find.
