AllMusic Review by

The 2012 dramedy Girl in Progress follows single mother Grace (Eva Mendes), who struggles to manage work, family, finances, and romance, while her teenage daughter Ansiedad (Cierra Ramirez) is inspired by classic coming-of-age stories to make strides toward adulthood. This moving story of learning to act one's age, whether young or old, is echoed in the soundtrack, which mixes south of the border music favorites (Mexican singer/songwriter Espinoza Paz and pop singer María José on the warm ballad "Así o Más," elegant Latin pop vocalist Eydie Gormé, and bolero group El Trío Los Panchos on the beloved "Sabor a Mi") with emerging female alternative singer/songwriters (1970s-influenced Beth Thornley, cafe crooner Reni Lane) and some stylish surprises (selections by Beijing-based indie rockers Queen Sea Big Shark and globetrotting singer/rapper Jessy Moss).
