AllMusic Review by

Despite the silly name, the Virgin-Whore Complex is actually a light chamber pop group whose male singer, Spots Ransom, reminds a good deal of the Field Mice/Northern Picture Library/Trembling Blue Stars (i.e., a little whiny, but heart-on-sleeve affectionate), with a similar, stronger female singer, Deb Forx, to trade off with (it's also a little like Beat Happening). On the other hand, V-WC's well-chosen B-side cover of the Mann/Weil holiday song "The Coldest Night of the Year" is reconfigured to fit that warm but melancholic, sleigh-bell background ambience of High Llamas, or His Name Is Alive, who share a love with 1966-1969 Brian Wilson.
