Sylvia Syms is more of a cabaret singer than a jazz vocalist. Backed on this CD reissue either by a potentially funky quintet led by organist Johnny "Hammond" Smith or a group that includes flutist Jerome Richardson and both Bucky Pizzarelli and Gene Bertoncini on guitars, Syms unfortunately picked out some instantly dated material (including "For Once in My Life," "Yesterday" and "I Will Wait for You") and does little to uplift the songs. The renditions are mostly pretty brief and instantly forgettable. Not one of Sylvia Syms' more significant sets.
