Fluids is the debut album from European alternative metal group Coanteen and is an excellent introduction to a band few may have heard of. Melding steady heavy metal riffs with rough vocal bellows that sound both confident and condescending, this German quintet fits in quite comfortably among the likes of Godsmack and Drowning Pool. Despite these similarities, Coanteen has a sound that is certainly all their own -- Fluids just does a immaculate job of cloaking their originality behind meaty posturing bound to attract fans around the world. Soundgarden influences appear sporadically through the album's five tracks, which is most definitely a benefit, as it shows the group's passion toward the music they create. Fluids never overwhelms the listener, yet the album serves as a solid precursor to future efforts.
