AllMusic Review by

Floating Whispers is classic Michael Stearns. Originally recorded and released in 1987, he remastered and re-released it in 1998 on both Earth Turtle Music and Groove Unlimited. This has everything that listeners want and expect from Stearns. The melodies are gentle; the atmospheres are grand; the ambience is soft; the arrangements are classy. A Stearns soundscape always has a twist or two, and this is no different. He graces the airwaves with a virtuoso Spanish guitar on the opening track -- "Spanish Twilight." It fits perfectly with the atmospheric ambience. Stearns invites his listeners into his soundworld for rest and relaxation. As with all of his discs, this elegant soundscape is in a world of Stearns' own design. Only Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Vidna Obmana, David Parsons, and Ron Boots have achieved this stature. This disc is also essential.
