Alan Parsons' volume in Sony's Flashback series is a double-disc collection of various tracks spread across his tenure with Arista Records and BMG, and compiled in aesthetic rather than chronological order. Compiling 20 tracks, it contains many obvious choices but some great surprises, too. This does mean, of course, that the Alan Parsons Project’s lone album for Mercury, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, is not represented here, but that one should be owned as is anyway. Many of the hit singles are here, such as the title tracks from Eye in the Sky, I Robot, and The Turn of a Friendly Card, as well as some killer tracks such as “Time,” “Ammonia Avenue,” “Paseo de Gracia,” “The Gold Bug,” and “Lucifer.” The only obvious omission -- and it's a big one -- is "Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You," which is almost inexcusable, but in fairness, that track is ubiquitous on virtually every other compilation of the Parsons Project's work. Sure, many fans already have best-ofs and numerous compilations but, that said, there is something about the way this collection is sequenced that makes the material come across as fresher than anything else that’s out there.
