Tom LoMachio's skills lie in his subtly layered guitar playing and several tracks on his debut album, Five Years Later, show the grace of his playing. However, he insists on being a one-man band -- adding in synth elements and squishy lyrics a la Dream Academy. If he had a sense of irony, he would sound like Belle & Sebastian. But it appears every one of these songs is, sadly, sincere. When LoMachio lays his heart out on the table, you just want to stomp it. Which is unfortunate because his smooth, deep voice is pleasant to listen to and could be used for much, much better things.
