Tom MacKenzie's Finally Tuned CD offers some lively and stirring hammer dulcimer and banjo playing, starting off with "Baker's March," on through "Half Creek" to "Cattle in the Crops, Keep Up With Jones" and "Eskimo Reel, Ice on the Pond." This album's a keeper, and many of the selections will have audience members reaching for repeat play. MacKenzie's 30-plus years as a performer show to very good effect here. Tempo varies from the gently restful "Fanny Powers" to the intense, frenetic "Hall of the Mtn King," with all stops in between ably represented, as well. Clog dancers will like "Frosty Morning"'s distinctive rhythms, too. So, yes, this one does it up right, and fans of banjo and hammer dulcimer music will definitely want to pick up a copy of Finally Tuned to add to their collections.
