AllMusic Review by

The Stomp Off label, which quickly became one of the premier record companies in documenting classic jazz, debuted with this lively and spirited outing by Terry Waldo's Gutbucket Syncopators. The pianist-leader gathered together some of the best trad jazz players, most from the Midwest: trumpeter Roy Tate, trombonist Jim Snyder, Frank Powers on clarinet and tenor, banjoist Eddy Davis, Louise Anderson on tuba, and drummer Hal Smith. Although there are five vocals (including two from Susan LaMarche), the emphasis is on colorful solos and exciting ensembles, with such songs as "Dinah," "Milenberg Joys," and two versions of "Big Man From the South" being among the more memorable performances.
