AllMusic Review by

This two-LP set features the Dutch Swing College Band with one of six American guests on four songs apiece. The music, which was also released in individual and expanded sets, really is the "best of" the Dutch Swing College Band recordings with guests. Tenor saxophonist Bud Freeman is in particularly strong form (on "Mandy Make Up Your Mind," "Shimme-Sha-Wabble," "Exactly Like You," and "Three Little Words"), while cornetist Wild Bill Davison, trumpeter Billy Butterfield, pianist Teddy Wilson, violinist Joe Venuti, and singer Jimmy Witherspoon all also sound inspired by the four-horn pianoless septet. The music ranges from Dixieland to swing and blues, with the other highlights including "I Want to Be Happy," "Lotus Blossom," "Swing That Music," "As Long As I Live," "Wild Dog," "Dear Old Southland," and "Raggin' the Scale." Well-worth searching for.
