This LP from the collectors' label Meritt has alternate takes taken from several classic sessions. Xylophonist Red Norvo's swing septet (with clarinetist Artie Shaw, Charlie Barnet on tenor, trombonist Jack Jenney and pianist Teddy Wilson) is heard on four selections and there are two different Wilson recording groups represented (featuring such sidemen as trumpeter Harry James, clarinetist Benny Goodman and tenorman Vido Musso). In addition this LP has alternates of Harry James's "Out of Nowhere" and the Benny Goodman Quartet's "Sugar" but most notable are the alternates to "After You've Gone" and "Body and Soul" which are taken from one of the first sessions by the Benny Goodman Trio. This is valuable but now once again rare music.
