The liner notes say that there are 19 tracks on Fear Gave Us Wings, but if a casual listen leads one to the conclusion that this is actually one 25-minute song broken up into random segments, that's perfectly understandable. It's not until the album's almost over (track number 17, the sluggish "Bent Out of Shape") that drummer Adde Mitrouliu varies the tempo or the beat by a hair, and singer Jon Lindqvist has one vocal style (the classic testicles-in-a-meat-grinder squeal) and one delivery speed (ultra-rushed) to sustain him throughout. When bassist Andreas Eriksson takes over on lead vocals for a couple of songs late in the running, his clichéd death metal growl is actually refreshing in comparison. Despite what those who aren't fans of the genre might believe, there's good Scandinavian speed metal and bad Scandinavian speed metal, and while Sayyadina get points for maintaining tempos that would make Motörhead themselves pass out from exhaustion, speed alone is not always enough.
