AllMusic Review by

Arguably the most absurdly conceived exploito release in the entire Alshire catalog, Famous Songs of Hank Williams in Modern Rock-Acid Sound delivers precisely what its title promises -- wigged-out psychedelic remakes of Nashville perennials like "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Hey Good Lookin'." Though not quite the genre-obliterating freakout one would hope, this is still a treasure, pitting yee-haw country vocals against driving, fuzz-laden garage rock -- and the damndest thing is, it actually works. Lord knows ol' Hank liked his drugs as much as the next fella, and had he lived, he might have spawned country-rock long before burritos took to the skies -- Famous Songs of Hank Williams in Modern Rock-Acid Sound not only gives us an alternate-reality glimpse of what might have been, but it tops it all off with a front cover depicting a glassy-eyed hippie chick feeding red and blue sugar cubes to one very lucky horse.
