Canada's Hank Snow was a versatile country performer, equally at home doing honky tonk, cowboy, hillbilly, and even what might pass for early rock & roll on occasion, but his strengths were in ballad material and feel-good rhumba boogies, styles he returned to again and again. He was also a solid songwriter, and at least one of his songs, 1950's "I'm Moving On," is an undisputed classic. That song leads off this 20-track set of Snow's early hits, which also includes 1949's "Marriage Vow." It all adds up to a decent introduction to this unsung early country star. Oh, and he could yodel some, too.
