Explosion Review

by Jason Birchmeier

Won-G continues his eclectic style of Haitian-flavored rap on Explosion, his follow-up to Royal Impression. During the time span separating the two albums, Won-G released another album, No Better Than This; however, that album featured the same songs that would end up appearing on Explosion, its cover photo even appearing inside the CD booklet. Despite the odd circumstances characterizing No Better Than This (2001) and Explosion (2002) -- for instance, both albums feature the same songs, yet in a different sequence -- one of the two is all you need. Dubble M produces nearly every track on Explosion, giving the album a very consistent production style; DJ Quik contributes (and also raps on) "Nothing's Wrong" and L.T. Hutton contributes three tracks -- "Do You Think I'm Scared," "I Love TNO," and "If You Wanna Ride" (the latter featuring Layzie Bone).
