This caustic duo, stamped with approval (as well as some production and performance) by Ani DiFranco, uses obvious tone and theme to sledgehammer its points in. "Best Cock on the Block," dripping with more spite than wit, pretty much sums up where these N.Y.C. gals are coming from. Yet, the spare arrangements occasionally work, lending the harmonies and adventurous use of instruments a complexity that paradoxically plays well within their simple settings.
