AllMusic Review by

Marcela Roggeri is an Argentine piano player born in Buenos Aires and raised in the South American pianist tradition of fiery virtuosity and overt sensuality. But while these qualities are entirely appropriate, even necessary, in performing the romantic music of Chopin and Liszt, overt sensuality counts for little and fiery virtuosity counts for less in the eccentric music of Satie while barely perceptible irony counts for more and gnomic objectivity counts for everything. Roggeri's six Gnossienne and three Gymnopédies get by on their beautiful tone and her Les trois valses distinguées du précieux (Three distinguished waltzes by a disgusted dandy) get by on their swaying rhythms, but her Avant-derniéres pensées (Next-to-last Thoughts) is entirely too straightforward and her Embroyns desséchés (Desiccated embryos) are far too literal. To be sure, this is a charming disc -- Roggeri's playing is always attractive and her program is superbly balanced between the whimsical and the weird -- but it sounds less like Satie at his most characteristic and more like Debussy at his most demotic. One looks forward to Roggeri's Chopin and Liszt, but her Satie is too unconventionally normal to bear repeated listening. Transart's digital sound is clean and vivid but with a sense of place and time.
