Svante Henryson's Enkidu sets his emotive cello playing in an atmospheric, electric backdrop for an intriguing study in contrasts. The album's title comes from the name of Gilgamesh's invincible best friend; once Gilgamesh dies, Enkidu realizes his own mortality and begins a journey toward immortality. Musically, this translates into epic electronics and stark cellos -- a very different approach to world music that combines folklore, electronica, and rock.
