This LP release from the Italian Europa label has performances by guitarist Elek Bacsik and violinist Stephane Grappelli. Bacsik's three songs do not list the personnel and for the date it states 1960 although, considering how modern he plays, this live session must have taken place a few years later. The relatively obscure but talented guitarist (who recalls Grant Green a bit but uses a more distorted tone) is in excellent form on "One Note Samba," "Green Dolphin Street" and "Summertime." Grappelli has long been famous but during 1960-61 he was much less known in the U.S. than he would be. The violinist is featured with two separate French rhythm sections on "Parisian Thoroughfare," "How High the Moon" and a pair of contrasting versions of "Nuages." His supporting cast includes either George Arvanitas or Rene Urtreger on piano along with drummer Kenny Clarke. Most of the Europa LPs (all of which contain rare performances) are worth getting.
