Chicago's Duranguense movement has spawned numerous popular acts, and Conjunto Atardecer is one of the most lively and well-known. Since most of the scene's musicians were born and raised in Chicago's Mexican communities, the true connection with Mexico's Durango is largely conceptual, but the music reflects the dusty plains and outlaw sensibility associated with Durango via myth. Adept at corridas, rancheras, and their own brand of rust-belt conjunto, Conjunto Atardecer's music is enough to turn any living room into an authentic cantina, and any cantina into an instant party. EL DECIMO Y SIGUEN LOS NO. 1 DEL PASITO DURANGUENSE is a great place to start with the group, since it provides a representative sampling of their buoyant sound, and evokes the tall hats, shiny boots, and big belt buckles of the Duranguense scene.
