With several 12" releases on Echocord, Meteosound, and Shitkatapult to his credit, Berlin's Lars Fenin puts together an album that is divided between tracks that are burbling, dubby techno in nature -- not worlds from Rod Modell or Mikkel Metal -- and a few that are as close to actual reggae (containing vocalists) as anything from On-U Sound or (more appropriately) latter-day Rhythm & Sound. He plays both sides with skill. If you find most Rhythm & Sound productions too minimal and staid, you'll likely find more to like in the vocal tracks, featuring a righteous gent named Gorbi. The instrumentals, meant for dancefloors and headphones, aren't all that distinctive and could be mistaken for a few other producers, but that doesn't mean that they're not worthy of swirling through your head.
