The second of two LPs taken from the same concert (sponsored by Downbeat magazine) features a variety of top all-stars. The concert had concluded with a 28-minute version of "Blues Over Easy" from a big band led by arranger Manny Albam. Some of the performance was included on Vol. 1; this album has the remainder (including solos by pianist Dick Katz, trumpeter Nick Travis and saxophonists Gene Quill, Jerome Richardson and Pepper Adams). Also on the album are a couple numbers from Steve Allen (playing piano with a trio/quartet that includes tenor saxophonist Georgie Auld), a feature for flutist Paul Horn ("Give Me the Simple Life") and quintets led by Don Elliott (heard on trumpet, vibes and mellophone) and clarinetist Tony Scott (who actually sticks to baritone on a version of "Scrapple from the Apple" also starring trombonist Jimmy Knepper and guitarist Kenny Burrell). None of this worthwhile if obscure music (nor that of Vol. 1) has yet been reissued on CD.
