With more and more Christian artists crossing over into the mainstream every year (not to mention selling albums in previously unheard-of quantities), many secular listeners are inclined to check out a bit of CCM (Contemporary Christian Music). The DOVE HITS series is always a fine place to start, and the 2004 edition is no exception. Like its Grammy equivalent, the disc presents a good mix of well-established artists (Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith) and talented newcomers (Across the Sky, Kristy Starling). Highlights include the intensely moving and topical "Letters from War" by Mark Schultz and "You Are So Good to Me," a typically gutsy Southern-rock worship number from Third Day. Those searching for a single disc that shows the breadth and depth of Christian pop-music talent in 2004 need look no further than this edition of DOVE HITS.
