The Songbook series is a tribute to some of Brazil's biggest composers by important interpreters. This second volume of the two dedicated to Dorival Caymmi (a total of 80 songs in four CDs) has classics such as "Marina" (with a splendid, modern string section arrangement and piano execution by Hermeto Pascoal), "Só Louco," "Você Já Foi à Bahia?," "Quem Vem Pra Beira Do Mar," and 17 other important songs. Backed by excellent musicians, the interpreters are Nana Caymmi, Leila Pinheiro, Beth Carvalho, D. Ivone Lara, Quarteto Em Cy, João Nogueira, Hélio Delmiro, Fátima Guedes, Emílio Santiago, Sérgio Ricardo, Dominguinhos, Jorge Mautner, Nelson Jacobina, Sivuca, Glória Gadelha, Elomar, Xangai, Marlui Miranda, Ulisses Rocha, Francis Hime, Olívia Hime, Amélia Rabello, Cristóvão Bastos, Rosa Passos, and Pery Ribeiro. All these artists are excellent proponents of MPB, each one in his/her distinctive style, and this compilation can serve as an introduction for each. Cássia Eller, who gets a bit lost in Pascoal's arrangements, is a pop/rock artist, and her repertoire has nothing to do with this.
