So some of the songs sound like they were recorded with a hand-held setup in front of a TV, but what the heck? It's all part of Indian cinema's charm -- a little of this, a little of that -- it's not always perfect but it's always frenetic and a jumble of genres. The songs collected are made by some of Bollywood's finest dubbing voices and singers (Asha Bosle, Mohammed Rafi) and make for a perfect introduction to Indian film music. The grunts, squeaks, and general mayhem from the movie scores remain -- disconcertingly so -- though it all sounds fairly sensible next to the rest of the millennial multicultural offerings floating in the sonic environment.
