AllMusic Review by

This is the same November 20, 1980 Denver show that was released as Concert Classics, Vol. 9, when Jack Bruce was touring in support of his I've Always Wanted to Do This album. Working with drummer Billy Cobham, keyboard player David Sancious, and guitarist Clem Clempson, Doing This...On Ice! adds two tracks that were cut from the previous CD, "Sunshine of Your Love," and the nearly 16-minute "Bird Alone," which expands things to two discs. Bruce fans should pick this up to replace Concert Classics, since the whole set is now represented, and the devoted will find that "Bird Alone," a tribute to jazz great Charlie Parker, is worth the repurchase price all on its own. Bruce's live shows are for the converted only, however, so don't approach this thinking it's the best of Jack Bruce live, because nothing is ever that simple with this brilliant and iconoclastic musician.
