Discolor's self-titled debut is a deep excursion into mystic psychedelia seemingly inspired by Third Ear Band and Amon Duul. A project lead by Stefan Lienemann who may be know to some collectors of underground folk and psychedelia as the Fit in Fit + Limo. The dark Anglo-folk feel of his group is present throughout this CD, though Discolor take the trance and drone passages into deeper hypnotic territory, creating multi-layered guitar-scapes of almost orchestral density. Adding cello, violin, synth, and sundry percussion, Discolor create a detailed deep-listening music via acoustic means. Tried and tested studio tricks make for a retro-psychedelic edge with the echoplex reaching almost dub proportions. Sitar drones and mystic imagery bubble through the surface on more than one occasion -- though not all hippie daydream. The dominant mood is a blissful late-night space rock session.
