Sumptuously packaged in a letterpress sleeve designed à la roadside diner menus of a bygone era, this two-song single documents Tsunami's increasing mastery of dynamics and texture. A layer of feedback buzzes just below the surface of "Load Hog," which deftly weds Tsunami's trademark muscle-flexing with the grasp of nuance that distinguished their breakthrough "Genius of Crack." Jenny Toomey's vocals likewise find an effective middle ground between strength and subtlety. A rare Kristin Thomson lead vocal distinguishes the elegiac flip side, "Gold Digger," which builds from hushed resignation to potent catharsis via lyrics like "Some say I burn my bridges/But I'm too tired to light the match." Excellent stuff, later compiled on the World Tour and Other Destinations collection.
