Devil with the Devil

The second LP in Rambler's very rewarding Western Swing reissue series of the early '80s has a selection or two from what (other than the omission of Bob Wills) could be considered the who's who of mid- to late-'30s Western swing: Cliff Bruner's Texas Wanderers, the Blue Ridge Playboys, the Tune Wranglers, the Light Crust Doughboys, Roy Newman, Jimmie Revard's Oklahoma Playboys, the Modern Mountaineers, Milton Brown and his Brownies and Bill Boyd's Cowboy Ramblers. Most of these spirited performances are quite rare and this album overall serves as an excellent introduction to the joys of Western swing.
