In a dance music Mecca like San Francisco, one might ponder if the abundance of quality house music feeds the large number of clubs and lounges, or if it's the ample number of clubs and lounges that incubate the fertile house music scene. This debut compilation from UBL sub-label Revive the Soul presents the whole henhouse for inspection of this chicken-and-the-egg scenario, with a double-disc set of fine San Fran-styled house and downtempo grooves, as well as a gorgeous 28-page booklet that tells the tale of not only the artists behind these tracks, but profiles the City by the Bay's various venues. It's an oddly effective way of furthering the natural inclination of the compilation disc to invoke the spirit of going out while staying comfortably and cheaply at home. Disc one offers an unmixed warm-up with exclusive cuts from Julius Papp, Romanowski and Joonbug, while disc two is a more heated affair with San Fran's DJ F mixing up tracks by local staples Miguel Migs and Jay-J (appearing with Halo Varga and Latrice Barnett) as well as some female imports like Detroit's K Hand and London singer/songwriter Haley, who also contributes an exclusive. With far too many compilation sets vying for your CD buying dollars, the extra effort put into Destination Lounge's packaging and musical selection should bring it to the top of your shopping cart.
