Deranged Review

by Roxanne Blanford

Deranged is the 1999 debut recording from the Ontario heavy rock trio, Roxx, but it could just as easily be a re-issued Kiss or Judas Priest album. With only 5 tracks, the requisite guitar fills and metal spills are hit quickly and solidly, but Roxx hardly re-invents the rock n' roll wheel in the process. Despite a general lack of nuance and imagination, heavy tracks "Heaven Together" and "Save Me" suggest a band with competent enough rock chops, but this has all been done before (and better) in the '80s. Included on this disc is a decent cover of Kiss' "Calling Dr. Love" and a track Roxx recorded as Redrum, "Night of the Living Dead."
