While some would call her a Canadian Jewel, Dayna Manning is attempting to come of age as an individual in this present world of female singer/songwriters, and with Dayna Manning, Vol. 1, she succeeds handsomely. A fine variety of song styles weaves a tempting web throughout this disc -- from the folkie tint of "Half a Man," where she recalls the late Sandy Denny, to the rocking "My Addiction," where she describes her man as just that, to "My Kind," a fine song made even finer by the help of Sean Lennon on guitar, bass, and organ. With 12 original songs from a fresh young talent, Vol. 1 is highly recommended.
