The similarities to Camera Obscura, in which two members of Champagne Kiss got their start, are obvious. The driving intensity, the anguished vocals, the abundant keyboards all are there. But this three-piece group somehow manages to pull off a more minimalist effect, while relying much more heavily on drum machines and other mechanical effects. The result is an artistic and stylistic achievement that lingers on after the music stops, but whether a human connection has been made is another question.
