AllMusic Review by

Promoting a fusion of thoughtfully complex jazz and the good-time dance music of their native New Orleans, the Hi Life Rescue Dance Band engage in interesting improvisation and song-play throughout Dance and Live Forever, their debut disc. Though the vocals are strained and the lyrics tend toward a mix of George Clinton and Sun Ra-like cosmic funk hyperbole, the melodies slink along interestingly. Tenor saxophonist Tim Green (who has played with Peter Gabriel, Anders Osborne, and local legends Michael Ray and George Porter, Jr.) adds tenor saxophone on six cuts on the disc, including "The Uncivil War" and "Plate Tectonics."
