Czarny Blues O Czwartej Nad Ranem Review

by Bradley Torreano

If any genre of music might seem to have limited appeal for the average English-speaking music fan, Eastern European folk music might be near the top of that list. It just seems like it would be boring, but it is actually quite an underrated genre. Stare Dobre Malzenstwo is one of the better examples of this genre; with their energetic arrangements and engaging hooks, they craft some really great songs. The use of various instruments, including strings and horns, gives their sound the depth and variety it needs to keep the disc interesting throughout. Some may be turned off by the overwhelming mellow vibe of the whole affair, but for fans of folk music this is a wonderful treat from a subgenre that is rarely represented in the international scene.
