AllMusic Review by

The early music on this LP will only be of interest to specialists of early acoustically recorded jazz. The New York Military Band's 1913 version of "Hungarian Rag" is quite interesting, as is the Frisco Jazz Band's 1917 "Night Time in Little Italy," but the performances of the Louisiana Five, Harry Raderman's Jazz Orchestra, Paul Victorin, the Merry Sparklers, Billy Wynne's Greenwich Village Orchestra, the Tennessee Happy Boys, Earl Oliver's Jazz Babies, Duke Yellman's Orchestra and Clyde Doerr are often closer to dance music than jazz, and the novelty effects (which include laughing trombones) are only humorous the first time around.
