AllMusic Review by

For their first commercially released DJ mix since 2006's Fabriclive, the globetrotting dance-rock group Cut Copy have chosen to focus on their hometown of Melbourne, Australia. Culling the best and brightest dance producers and bands, the guys in Cut Copy present a document that makes a case for their town as one of the hottest places on earth for dance music. Mixed into one long, pulsating track, Oceans Apart flows like the best hour on a sweaty dancefloor. Cut Copy fill the mix with a constant flow of high points, as the artists collected drop serious house jams, funky neo-disco, echoing techno mood pieces, and the kind of trippy, '80s-influenced dance-rock Cut Copy do so well. The continuous mix structure means that it's hard to pick out standout tracks; better to just go with the flow and let the music move your feet and satisfy your ears. After it's over, then the discovery process can begin. From the sound of it, there are plenty of promising artists to check out further. Cut Copy have done their hometown proud by shining the spotlight on it; in return, their hometown artists make them look good too. It's a good deal for all involved, especially listeners who were looking for new artists and an hour or so of pumped-up beats and melodic dancefloor fillers.
