David Casper is a musician who has been single-mindedly pursuing his somewhat idiosyncratic musical vision over several albums, unswayed by the demands of mainstream accessibility. On his latest release he continues to explore the fusion between world and new age music that has characterized his style. Side one, subtitled "Humming Wha Suite," features the ringing tones of metal singing bowls, whose sounds hover in space, seducing the listener into contemplative moods. Modulated bass flute sounds, voices, sleigh bells and, on the last cut, Native American style drumming further deepen the hypnotic effect. The drum reappears on parts of side two, humorously subtitled "In Quest of Noble Gas," which moves into even more ethereal spaces. This is a very spacy album, oriented toward deep relaxation, meditation, and astral travelling.
