The first volume in a three-disc series from Disky that riffs on the success of Buena Vista Social Club, Cuban All Stars doesn't really include any famous Cuban performers, and actually steals the name of a 1995 project from Tata Güines and Miguel Anga. The disc even begins with a version of the same song, "Chan Chan," that opened 1997's Buena Vista Social Club. The musicians, including Rudy Calzado, Cesar Pedroso, and Soneros de Verdad, are obviously gifted and turn in solid performances, but Cuban All Stars is valuable only for those who can't get enough of contemporary Cuban music.
