AllMusic Review by

Although the liner notes say that the recording dates of Mickey Gilley's sessions for the Crazy Cajun label are unknown, the presence of a twist song, "Whole Lot of Twistin' Going On," puts them in the ballpark of the early '60s. Gilley sounds more like his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis on these tracks than he would later, and many of the songs were recorded Jerry Lee/Sun Records style with just piano, drums, and vocals. The Crazy Cajun Recordings sound like demos, but 18 tracks of early rockin' Gilley is a rare and welcome thing.
