Ilhan Ersahin is the mastermind behind Nublu--the East Village nightclub and record label that features a buffet of electronica-jazz-world-improv acts. Wax Poetic is a floating musical project that takes him to other parts of the world to record with local musicians. Here, he hooks up with vocalist Marla Turner and a trio of Danish musicians who perform songs from the more rock-sounding end of Ersahin's spectrum. Electronica touches abound, and Turner's vocals occasionally slip off into Bjork-like squawks, but for the most part the songs are straight-ahead pop-rockers. COPENHAGEN is the first in a trilogy of releases that include ISTANBUL and BRAZIL.
