As a distillation of the ambitious, portentous four-disc set called Olio, Compendium is a much friendlier introduction to the songwriting work of Nebraskans Steve Henigan and collaborator Matt Kenagy. Compendium is a nice sampling of Henigan's songwriting over the past ten years, mostly based in strong acoustic rhythm guitar with traditional rock backup. Compendium demonstrates how classic rock textures can be achieved within an indie rock framework. While there is little new ground broken here, Henigan's songs are solid, heartfelt, and produced with muscular tone.
