This is the type of LP that collectors love. There are 16 obscure performances by jazz-oriented dance bands of the mid-'20s, none of which Columbia has bothered to ever reissue. The Manhattan Dance Makers, the Knickerbockers, Earl Gresh's Gangplank Orchestra, Francis Craig, Art Kahn, Paul Specht, Al Handler, Fred Rich and Paul Ash's Orchestra are all represented. In most cases the sidemen were respected studio players and their musicianship is impressive for the period. There are no classics on this LP but the music is consistently fun.
