Released in conjunction with the airing of a popular television series, the Code Geass R2 series attempted to put out an album for each episode of the show. Instead of a full compilation, however, the albums contained the equivalent of a single and B-side, as well as the recorded dialogue and sound effects of the show itself. After an opening theme which pairs light and airy pop vocals with a slightly thumping bass track, the album shifts into drama mode, with a full 23 minutes of speech and battle acts in Japanese -- the television episode in what's essentially a radio format. The album closes just as briefly as it began, with a karaoke version of the opening theme (minus the lead vocals, but containing the backing vocals). For die-hard fans (of which there are many -- the album charted in the Oricon Top 10), the album is a nice addition. For others, it's an easy pass.
