The Flashcats are a combination of a serious country-rock band and a goofy parody group. This duel existence seriously hinders the listener's ability to take the music seriously, which is a shame. "Song for Pete" is actually really great, a sweet tribute to a close friend that reflects some of the best aspects of Christmas music. "Merry Christmas America" is a heartfelt song that still sounds goofy, if only because of the generic lyrics. "Spending It With You" is in the same boat, but is more appealing because of its incredibly short length. And "I'm Proud to Be a Flashcat Fan" is an awful parody of Lee Greenwood's "I'm Proud to Be an American" that fails to hit the mark because the song is essentially about the band's little in-jokes. This is a very uneven EP, but that's OK since it will probably not appeal to anyone not already familiar with the group. Keep listening after the last song; there is a pretty good bonus track hidden at the end of the album.
