AllMusic Review by

Musically this is actually a better collection than its rating would lead one to believe, especially the Chris Farlowe CD. But the reason for the relatively modest rating will be obvious to anyone who knows the particulars of the two careers involved; that whatever its musical merits, the concept behind this compilation is silly -- yes, there might have been a decent match-up musically between Chris Farlowe and Long John Baldry, but not utilizing the latter's Pye Records output, which this collection does. That material is much too pop-oriented and watered down, Pye having tried to turn Baldry into another Tom Jones and, instead, came up with a second-rate Engelbert Humperdinck; Chris Farlowe, by contrast, who was signed to Immediate Records, never had a watered down period (and, arguably, never a weak period). Otherwise, all of the familiar material by both artists from the period represented is present, and this might be as good a way as any to acquire a best-of Chris Farlowe or Long John Baldry, assuming that one doesn't have something like that already in one's collection. And in its defense, the producers have included extensive annotation by Roger Dopson, and the sound is excellent.
